About me

Hi, my name is João Silva, I'm 22 years old and I'm an artist. I graduated from the Faculdade Belas-Artes of Lisbon, in the Science of Art and Heritage course, which focuses on the preservation of artworks and also on museology and ways of exhibiting them. In addition to progressing as an artist, I aim to enter the world of galleries and museum institutions, creating opportunities for urban art to have a place in Art and in the institutional and tell its story.

Background

I grew up in a small town at the end of the Cascais Coast (Linha C), the proximity to the sea created a fascination for water sports such as windsurfing, bodyboarding and sailing. The taste for the adrenaline of the sea would be reflected in other radical activities such as skateboarding and gave rise to the artistic name Waves.

Graffiti

The entry into graffiti was fueled by various moments and people in my life, I remember one night after a small music festival I watched some guys doing live graffiti on the street. Later, with my bro Versus from the EOG crew in a school class, we created our tags and a started a game of egos, competing for the best letterings. The school wall itself was one of the oldest murals of urban art in the country and had works that were impossible to be indifferent to and I had to learn how to paint.

Inspiration

My biggest inspirations are the streets, in the middle of all the cities movement. To capture the bright side and its more underground aspects, the contrast, life and experiences that make me think and translate it into my art style.
